"Control D" DNS Servers
« on: October 17, 2024, 07:07:08 AM »

Anyone tried the "Control D" DNS server? They offer variants which block (or rather presumably fail to resolve) various categories like known malware, adult content etc.

I ran with the Control D servers for a while, 76.76.2.2 and 76.76.10.2. That's supposed to be the ad blocking version. With suffix being cached, and less times etc I'm not quite clear when they came into effect. But this morning YouTube won't work, it detect an ad blocker and thee seems to be no way around that. My tablet doesn't have a way to set DNS manually so not easy to do a quick test or over-ride. So back to Open DNS for the moment.

Will have to do some testing from the laptop.

I mostly use OpenDNS so I don't think I will make the switch to another one any time soon

I've used Open DNS for as long as I can remember but as far as I'm aware they don't have an ad blocking function.

Currently having a play with Next DNS which can match my account, and therefore setting, by DOH hostname, so doesn't require a static IP address at my end.
