Stuck on Retx-High profile
« on: October 04, 2024, 08:50:04 AM »

Hi ,
After switching ISP I have noticed I have lost a chunk of speed.  After digging through my line stats it seems that this is because my line is now stuck on the Retx-High profile where as before I was on Low.

I can see on my router stats that this seems to be identified by it now showing INP-REIN 1 rather than INP-REIN 0 as it was before.

Do the ISP have any sway over this setting, are they able to request a retx-low profile from openreach or is it completely at the mercy of DLM to hopefully move you back over some time?

Without seeing the stats it sounds like you are on the default profile following a DLM reset. How long since the change as it should move back to Retx-Low eventually if the line is stable enough, although I believe some users have had to force the issue by capping the sync speed for a while to keep errors low?
I'm sure others can give more advice, which will be helped if you can copy your stats here.

thanks, these are my current stats. I moved ISP about a month ago however there was a DLM reset done 3 days ago at the request of the ISP whilst looking into the reduced speed. There was a resync overnight (6.5hrs ago) where DLM did the first step of dropping down from the initial 6db snr margin, so not indicative of the line being settled, my max throughput is about 91% of the sync speed.  I suspect perhaps I was fortunate being on a low profile for so long previously where I was able to get much closer to sync speed.

3 days is too soon, see you you go in the next week or so.

yes indeed the current stats aren't useful only being 3 days. I was more thinking about the fact it was on retx high from the moment I switched ISP a month ago, the dlm reset this week was a part of the investigation to the dropped speed which thanks to the info on this site, I have correlated to it being on retx high from the point of switchover. Prior to that switch the router stats always said inp-rein 0 so retx low as I understand it.

No, it's a DLM function, there has been much discussion in the past as to which parameter has the greatest influence on the outcome, have never seen a definitive answer.

Have had very similar experiences with DS Re-Tx profile Hi/Lo state back in my VDSL-2 days as indeed have many forum patrons, here are a few old forum links which may be of assistance:

https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,25214.msg423411.html#msg423411

There are many more informative discussions on this topic within the "FTTC and FTTP Issues" area going back quite a few years obviously not so common now with the mass migration to FTTP.

No, it's a DLM function

Thanks this is what I was after really, now i've identified why the speed has dropped if they have no way to request a modification to that setting i'll stop bugging them about it. And hope maybe one day the DLM gods smile upon me again and revert back to how it used to be :)

You've still got 2 more SNR steps to go (4dB and 3dB) so leave it alone and if stable enough it'll drop down to 3dB quite soon. You'll still likely be on Retx-High and if it doesn't move to low on it's own, and the small speed reduction really bothers you, you can try forcing it as per the threads that @tiffy has referred to.

Your ISP can request changes to your profile with Openreach, but it's ultimately managed by Dynamic Line Management (DLM). You may want to contact your ISP for assistance in seeking a retx-low profile or to investigate the issue further.  :)

To clarify the above post, there aren't any FTTC DLM profile changes your ISP can request from Openreach.
The only aspect of the DLM that your ISP has any control over is the stability level.  Other than that they can request a reset, which will take the line back to the 'default profile' with re-tx high.
As an aside there is an Openreach reset that can only be performed by a visiting Openreach Engineer when investigating a line fault  This wipes all DLM history and sets the DLM as if it were a new line and on an 'Open profile' for up 48hrs.  From observation, lines that have had an Engineer reset seem to move faster to retx-low.  Stability level may also affect lines depending upon their level of errors per day.   Quite a few people get impatient and resort to capping the sync speed.  However, its too soon yet for you to try that yet... and as already mentioned there's a few other steps first.  Good luck :)

Leave it alone it will gone back to 3dB and removed Retx-High soon as long it remain stable. It's happen to me, took me 4 days to get back to normal.
