Virtual phone numbers for Android smartphone
« on: September 22, 2024, 10:46:09 AM »

Hi all,

Been a while since I last posted. Excuse me if this is not the best category.

I am looking to utilise virtual numbers to better separate my personal and not-so-personal communications without needing additional SIMs (I have three currently, but can only have two on standby at a time with DSDS).

Really, I am just looking for pointers and recommendations for both applications and services that I can use on an Android device. I have done a bit of a search and come across apps like Groundwire and Acrobits, but there are so many different services that come up from a Google search and I have heard of none of them before.

It needs to be possible to both send and receive calls and texts. Ideally, I should be able to port in an existing mobile number, and inbound calls/texts should not be chargeable.

Any advice on options and costs would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

Sorry for the lack of response. I tried to reply yesterday but had a database error. Perhaps it was caused by the characters I was trying to use.

I had heard of neither of those, but the latter is not even available in the UK. The former is not quite what I am looking for either, but I appreciate the ideas.

I think AAISP's VoIP service is enough for what I intend as I can utilise a mobile number, even port my old if I need to, while being able to receive calls and SMS for free (I can have SMS delivered by email for OTPs). I do not intend on using it for outgoing even though the pricing is fair. 12 for setup and 1.20 a month for the number (tin grade) itself is reasonable enough.
