Found a TP-Link Archer VR900 V1 brand new. FTTC advice
« on: September 19, 2024, 04:37:27 PM »

Firstly hello.

Can the TP-Link Archer VR900 V1 work with a Talk Talk (Migrated from Shell) FTTC connection?

I'm on the Fibre 35 which uses the same DSL connection ect. The router I have is the sagecom Fast 5359.

I'm a complete novice so if this question seems like someone who doesn't know what they're talking about it's because it does  :)

Thank You.

This may assist - https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Set-up-a-non-TalkTalk-router/ta-p/2205383
If the router insists on a username and password being put in then I suspect any random ones will do.

When swapping routers, it's essential to have your TalkTalk broadband username and password ready. These credentials would have been provided when you initially set up your service. If you do not have them readily available, you can retrieve them from your current Sagecom Fast 5359 router's settings.

Once your TP-Link Archer VR900 is connected, log into its user interface and navigate to the Quick Setup or Internet Settings section. Select VDSL as the connection type, then enter your TalkTalk login credentials. Most settings, such as the VLAN ID, should auto-configure

Very inaccurate

Talktalk do not have, use or issue usernames and passwords on FTTC.
They use IPoE/DHCP to authenticate rather than PPP with a username and password like most other FTTC providers.

There is no VLAN ID on the Talk talk part of the connection, only on the PTM credentials which are generic on Openreach VDSL and is always 101.

The VLAN will never auto configure unless the router manufacturer has added a profile for Openreach specifically.

Talktalk business user PPP with usernames & passwords.
