Another point, what do people think are the chances of getting a choice for where the fibre gets terminated at our property? Or will they insist on taking it to where the old master socket is?
In my experience with my own FTTP installation (underground) and that of family, friends & neighbours in my particular area there is usually an element of choice regarding ONT location (within reason) whether UG or aerial fed, of course this can very much depend of the flexibility and temperament of the OR or sub-contactor engineer on the day, luck of the draw really
With my own FTTP installation I did quite a bit of preparation work as original UG POTS cable was DIG, ie., no ducting, fitted a duct under the path and drilled a hole where I wanted the ONT to go, also bought and fitted an ONT enclosure (timber framed dwelling) which made a tidy installation.
To say the sub-contract installation engineer was delighted with the effort would be an understatement, saved him a lot of work
A point of caution which has been mentioned many times on this forum, if you plan to exclusively rely on Wi-Fi connectivity, remember your router (hub) will normally be situated a short ethernet cable length from the ONT unless you plan to run (or already have) an ethernet cable run to a favourable, central Wi-Fi location, something to bear in mind.
