Indeed, I can only think touch screens, but wouldn't it make more sense to keep sane desktop padding sizes and then have a specific touch screen mode that changes the whole UI?

I was playing with touchscreens on PC the second I could afford old hardware with them (as the price was insane in the early days) but if I wanted to read my e-mail on a touch screen, I'd buy an iPad.

I've just switched back to Thunderbird from Betterbird because they are not supporting UK English language packs they only support US English.

They do have GB language packs, but in the Linux versions of Betterbird you have to install them manually using the general purpose GB language pack (in the last column of the downloads page).

I tried that and nothing downloaded plus the add button for language is greyed out in settings. It's US English or nothing as far as I can tell.

To download the language pack you have to right-click on the item, then select "Save As". After that you can go to Tools --> Adons and Themes, and select the language pack which you downloaded. It works fine here.

Still running Betterbird, had not noticed US English only anomaly to be honest.
I still can't see any easy way to update program revisions without a full re-install?

OK but I'm still not convinced it is better than Tbird I find zero obvious differences, and yes the full reinstall is the only way which again is another thing against it. My distro has Tbird as a standard component compiled for it so it updates easily.

Wondering if you had any loss of your e-mail archives when migrating back to TB?
I'am tempted to migrate back to TB as the requirement for a full program reload to update revisions with BB bothers me, have not tried this yet as BB has been very stable and reliable so far.
I am assuming that a full re-install of TB would cure the issues I was experiencing as listed in the first post of this thread, if that was the case I would be quite happy to return to TB.

Obviously would be sure to save a backup of my current BB profile which should ensure no loss of e-mail archives even if I had to return back to BB again.

Have tried Eric's suggestions regarding installation of the GB Language Pack, can't get this to work on Windows, probably doing something wrong!

I don't believe I've lost any thing switching between them, they both accessed the same location where the emails are stored. Obviously if your situation is not the same a backup would be essential.

I did install the UK language pack, save the xpi and open it with Bbird and it should install.

You don't need to do that with Windows. The relevant language pack is included in the Windows package.

@broadstairs:
I decided to try a full re-install of TB on my Win 10 DT PC, picked up the current BB configuration without any issues however, all the anomalies as listed in my first post were still there so, despite TB having run faultlessly for many years on my Win system just can't get around the issues which occured since the major program update earlier this year :(

It's back to BB for me, TB for whatever reason just won't behave on my particular Win 10 Pro setup?
Downloaded and ran the latest BB program update on top of the existing installation, no problems encountered, won't have any reservations in future about performing BB updates.

@roseway:
Thanks for the information.
Could not download the UK language pack, was being blocked by Firefox as unsigned even after defeating the browser attachment protection, however, not relevant now thanks to the information you have provided.

Reading this thread with great interest as I haven't really found a Cross platform Email client that works for me across all my devices and have tried ThunderBird, moved to BlueMail, played with Outlook but still pretty unhappy - I'll definitely be downloading and trying BB

I have used Thunderbird for many years on Windows flatform, never had any issues until the "major update" quite a few months ago now, the functionality remained OK but all the really annoying anomalies as listed in my first post occured which I just could not get rid of, migrating to Betterbird completely cured this for me :)

If you have tried TB already there is virtually no difference using BB, I still have retained my TB installation with a new BB install, they appear to share the same profile in the same file location, any new mail still appeared on TB when opened while running BB, I just turned off all mail collection on TB and now keep the application closed, never bothered to uninstall TB.
I would still be running TB if I had not encountered the issues mentioned.

So, by all means try BB if you have not done so already, certainly on a Windows platform it seems to co-exist quite happily with TB..
