Indeed, I can only think touch screens, but wouldn't it make more sense to keep sane desktop padding sizes and then have a specific touch screen mode that changes the whole UI?
I was playing with touchscreens on PC the second I could afford old hardware with them (as the price was insane in the early days) but if I wanted to read my e-mail on a touch screen, I'd buy an iPad.
