Long thread on this elsewhere as it's a very difficult issue for Kitz to solve, but basically do you have a pound sign in what you're posting, or maybe some other special characters?

Yes, thanks it is the pound sign due to a collation error when my hosts moved the site over to the new server.  The site was using UTF-8 character encoding and it got set to latin for some reason and now its caused a conflict the char sets.   Its a very large database - too large for phpmyadmin so I have to ask my hosts to transfer anything.  Ive tried restoring from backups but as its actually a server config problem it doesnt help.  I did try rolling back some other settings, but then that caused the forum to vanish from the internet unless you were already logged in (snf white screen of death).   So it looks like Im having to go through and do some manual edits with the SMF core.   Unfortunately its renowned that collation conflicts are difficult to solve.  It also doesnt help that I am so slow these days. :/

@meritez.  Is it all quotes that you have a problem with?  or perhaps if the quoted post contains a bad char.

I was only aware of the pound sign, Euro sign out & copyright of the commonly used set.  afaik its actually some of the chars in the extended ascii set.

I can use all the keys on my keyboard except the pound and  negation

I found if I copy/paste from websites then you run into it copying UTF versions of things like ' which also triggers the problem.
