Vigor 167
« on: August 05, 2024, 04:35:33 PM »

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me.

I recently replaced a HG612 3B with a Vigor 167, both in modem mode. After a couple of days, ReTx had been changed from on to off on the near end in the DSL Status on the modem, and the path mode was set to interleaved. I've contacted the manufacturers to ask if there is a way to turn retransmission back on from the modem directly, and they replied, saying 'usually this is enabled by the ISP'. I was wondering if this is something you can request from your ISP.

Also, if anyone knows how to turn ReTx back on on the modem, please let me know, as the manufacturer's support was not very helpful.

@user050824 Assuming your service is supplied by Openreach FTTC, the line characteristics are virtually all under automatic control by the DLM (dynamic line management) system. Your ISP will not be able to control the retransmission state.

Why did you change to the Vigor? I must admit I'm not too keen on the Draytek modems, they don't have a Broadcom DSL chipset which is generally considered to give the best performance on most lines.
I have never had a problem with my HG612 3B. :)

@RealAleMadrid Thank you for the reply.

I changed to the Vigor 167 because, since technology is always evolving, I thought it would be better. At the start, it appeared to be better since my latency reduced from 8 ms to 6 ms. But since interleaved has been applied, my latency is 14 ms, and my speeds have reduced :(. Do you know of any newer Broadcom DSL chipset modems?

Newer is not always better, it may just be cheaper to manufacture.  Also consider its unlikely the hardware at the other end of the connection is new now, so its better to stick with what you know works well, unless its actually broken.
