FTTC third party RECOMENDATION please
« on: July 21, 2024, 10:36:31 AM »

What cheap third party router will run good with openreach fttc?

I tried the archer vr2100 and it causes ping spikes over 260ms randomly.

I have tried the archer vr2800 doesn't cause latency issues, but when I play games it feels all the time that my bullets don't do much damage to enemies which is very strange. If I use the sky router it seems fine.

IDnet speed: 63mbps downstream and 6mbps upstream.

Distance to cab 100 yards I think.

Cab is Broadcom I think

hardwire

when I was with sky I dident have these issues, but when I switched to Idnet I am forced to search for third party router.

the sky router has  Broadcom MIPS-based

is this different to the archer vr2800 broadcom chip?

Does the perhaps have some sort of QoS or DDoS protection that is tripping up gaming traffic?

Are you looking for an all in one device, or would a VDSL bridge modem and a dedicated router be of interest?

Usually broadcom chip devices are favoured, as these seem to perform overall the best in stability and performance, even on ECI cabinets.

Zyxel devices are commonly broadcom so are a popular choice by Kitz community members, although perhaps differences in the preferred Zyxel model.

Billion 8800NL I also remember serving me well which is also broadcom based.  Although by todays standards the wifi on it will be dated.

I tended to use my billion/zyxel in bridge mode, so in effect the main concern was the DSL chipset, and profile of the device.

Before I had FTTP I had FTTC

There were problems with the metal telephone cable

I used a Billion 8800NL Router to get some sort of a connection & troubleshoot the problem

Still using it as my Router for the FTTP
