G.fast sync drop due to hot summer

As I was always aware of hot summer will get G.fast sync drop due to hot summer. But I get used to it and ain't complaint anymore. Can't wait for FTTP next year (I more likely to pick FTTP 330/50 depend on pricing)

Autumn / Winter

Sogfast 245Mbps to 255Mbps downstream / 32Mbps to 33Mbps upstream

Spring / Summer

Sogfast 202Mbps to 212Mbps downstream / 30Mbps to 31Mbps upstream

I agree with most peoples as G.fast isn't great on hot summer. Nothing we can do about it.

Its certainly interesting, but I wouldn't exactly call it "isn't great".  Its still faster than a lot of people are going for on FTTP.

It isnt a particularly hot summer and I cant say that Ive noticed 'most people saying it isnt great in summer'.  g.fast pushes dsl to its limits and can be affected by all seasonal changes,  but you knew the risks before you signed for 330 rather than 160 most of us recommended.
There are somef people who would love to be able to get 160 g.fast.

Its still faster than a lot of people are going for on FTTP.

Indeed, the average speed last year iirc was ~73Mbps.  Even if users had access to the faster FTTP speeds, they were opting for the 74Mb or 150Mb products.  I have access to the 900Mb FTTP product yet Im still on 80/20Mb FTTC.

With FTTP comes reliability which outways speed for me and 76/18 with 471 days modem uptime no disconnects thats what your looking for these days.

I know it's not a very relevant comparison but since moving from POTS/ADSL (max 20mbps) to SoGEA/FTTC earlier this year I'm getting 62/12 (similar to Kitz  :cool: ) and no downtime whatsoever since migration - currently 124 days.
And I'm saving money too, moving my POTS to VOIP with A&A.  :graduate:

Technically my ONT stayed running when British Gas changed the meters earlier this month.  Unfortunately the rest of the network did not, as there is no easy way to power my core switch for any length of time.

I leave the ONT on a 12V UPS mainly so in an emergency I could plug a laptop into it.

I have thought about those Lithium power banks, but I really don't feel comfortable having that much power density in the home in the unlikely event of thermal runaway.

Strange. Your line is underground, the weather hasn't been especially warm and xDSL isn't impacted much by weather: far less than overground coaxial or whatever.

Wouldn't a low atmospheric pressure increase radio interference too?  I'd imagine it wont take much loss to higher frequencies to shave off 40Mbit downstream.  Upstream to me looks to still be within normal variance from a resync.

Plus if it was just a single resync it could be pure fluke that it synced lower.

Did reboot Openreach G.fast Modem. ISP sync rate now 249.7 down and 33 up. Thanks guys.

Day to day fluctuations much more of an 'issue'. Atmospheric pressure minimal influence relative to changes in noise generation nearby. If it made that much difference waiting for a really foggy day to do a resync would be a good plan :)

Taking 40 Mbit off means losing 3 dB of margin over ~ 40 MHz of spectrum, 6 dB from ~ 20 MHz, whatever. That's not insignificant, that's the noise over that spectrum doubling or quadrupling in intensity or received signal power halving or being cut by three quarters. That loss is the same regardless of where in the spectrum it is. Whether dropping from BPSK to nothing at the edge or 4096-QAM to 2048-QAM in the golden band still the same loss required. Doubt the top end is carrying anything anyway, the spectrum is likely loaded far more heavily towards the lower end with much of the top unusable: his entire sync could be accommodated under 50 MHz if the bit loading algorithm were so inclined. Certainly won't be interested in 87.5 MHz and up that much: FM radio.

This kinda thing can be SRA steadily lowering the sync and it dropping over time, or given how obsessively the guy monitors stats a one-off event. On upstream reminder on G.fast there is no upstream band with lower attenuation, time not frequency division multiplexing.

On upstream reminder on G.fast there is no upstream band with lower attenuation, time not frequency division multiplexing.

I just found out why G.fast dropping in speed. Drop of 33Mbps from G.fast modem to G.fast router.

ZT Link MT992 Openreach G.fast Modem getting sync rate of 245.49 / 30.19
Zyxel XMG3927-B50A G.fast Router getting sync rate of 212.44 / 30.37 (current on latest firmware V5.17(ABMT.6)C0)
I think there is possible G.fast router are very poor designer because it not enabled both G.INP and Vectoring but the Openreach G.fast modem will be deffo got both G.INP and Vectoring enabled on to boost 33Mbps extra.

I thought you'd rolled back from the latest firmware on the Zyxel some time ago because it was giving poor sync rates? Also, how do you know the sync rate on the Openreach modem as I thought they were locked down?

The openreach gfast modem sync rate will be on the isp control panel history connection (see below) also you can work out via BTw performance test eg: ip profile rate divided by 09669% to get the sync rate. The openreach gfast modem is locked down cannot unlocking it (impossible to do it)

Only the Gfast router you will see full connection rate on the router (screenshot below)
