I'm having an issue posting a new thread which I assume are related to the wider server/database errors

I'm definitely not the expert here, but I guess this may be related to the temporary character set which the forum is using. If your posting contains any non-ASCII characters it might be worth trying to substitute characters from the ASCII set.

Yes sorry about this, it is most likely to be the pound char.   I thought I had a fix, but unfort that just caused another error so I had to roll back.
Apparently char collation problems can be a PITA to clear.    I am still working on something, but had to stop the past couple of days as my tremor has gone stupid and making my typing very slow.     I do apologise.  I cant even begin to explain how I feel right now.

You're being rather dramatic, the fact you were able to post this is proof that is simply not true.

Have some sympathy, this is not an easy problem to fix.

I've been getting the Database error and unable to post, not sure why as I though I was typing pure text.
Then I spotted

and realised I had a pound character. Removed it and all is well with the world.  ;D

I've recently found a way to easily confirm if a specific user or IP has been having problems making a post due to the collation issue.  I can confirm it was the same rogue char that was causing you problems making posts for the past few days.  I do apologise and thank you for being so understanding.    Believe it or not I am still slowly trying to work on this.  I had to have an enforced break for a short while, plus Ive got a few personal things going on that are time consuming.
Some of you may have noticed that I'm temporary switching off some of the mod features such as inframe youtube etc and I apologise for any inconvenience.

Absolutely no need to apologise Kitz, this is a valuable and unique resource that I've used (albeit relatively lightly) for free over many years. It's enabled me to understand broadband issues much better than I ever would without it and so help myself and many others use t'internet more easily and reliably. All very much appreciated.   :graduate:

Max.  I can tell from the logs that you deliberately made half a dozen posts containing the pound key to repeatedly trigger the error after reading about it in this thread. I had a problem with the SSL certificate yesterday, but that was surprisingly fixed quite promptly. I can tell from your image that you were not affected by this because 1)There is no cert expired message 2)The site logo image loaded. I've had DNS issues that caused a lot of down time,  but those should have all been fixed.

I am aware that we have a problem with the pound sign. Collation problems between ISO latin and UTF-8 are notoriously difficult to clear.  Conversion between the two has been mystifying for people more knowledgeable than myself.   The migration has been hugely time consuming when it shouldn't have been and there are lots of things I still need to fix, but aside from the char issue and one of the mods playing up then its all mostly design and skin related.

No I'm not happy either it seems to be one thing after the other that Ive had to fix, but  "nothing works" feels unfair.  I pay rather a lot of money to keep this site going and as soon as I can I will be moving away asap as I cant afford to pay how much they charge.

this is not an easy problem to fix.

Thank you so much for understanding.  Even backups failed to fix the error. There has to have been some server setting or server software version somewhere that was different. :/
