Hi Depy - Thank you.

Does it matter that my account is with TSO who were taken over by godaddy... but I am still classed as being TSO (who bought out vidahost).

Yes its sql text file 343MB.  I have tried to optimise the database before making the backup.  I have Cpanel with phpmyadmin which is how I was trying to transfer it.
I have to change the host file on my PC if I want to see anything on the new site.   It took me weeks to get an answer how to access the new server for the address to Cpanel.  I have been asking for over a week for them to change the DNS.

I'm not sure if I have SSH I have never used it.

Sent you a PM, I should hopefully be able to help steer you a bit with getting this sorted, it has been my bread and butter for 20 years (actually probably 25 years thinking now).

I think you're doing this on hard mode.

The whole point of using something like Cpanel is you should be able to perform a full site backup and restore that will include everything including the databases.

However it seems Derpy is on the case so will hopefully be able to deal with the database alone.

Ive fired so much stuff at the tickets and spoke to live chat today who in effect cut me off.   I have "premium" support adn they are supposed to deal with it.  God help standard if this is premium.  I finally do have a reply to my ongoing ticket that looks like they are going to remigrate the forum.  I;m out of steam and really cant type any more right now. Im not physically abe to do anything #taken a swig of morphine and am going to have to go lie down for a while

Easiest way is via command line, which derpy beat me to it.

The problem with these managed packages, they are relying on the customer being quiet and when they are needed, they fall short as they likely have massively over subscribed the staff who do the work.

Finally back.  Totally abysmal service.  I was just about to go to bed on Friday night and checked the site before I went and noticed there was a note on my ticket saying they were about to migrate the forum and wiki databases/  I quickly put the forum into maintenance mode to make sure no further posts went through on the old server as they would only have been lost.  Then I waited for them to propagate the DNS like promised.  I waited no update to my ticket & I waited for them to answer my ticket... and waited without any response.  48hrs later and I was literally begging them to please sort the DNS.... and then we died.  It looked like they switched the old server off without sorting the DNS.   This has been an entirely stressful event and there still work I need to do  Such as a new skin for the wiki due to them not putting on the php version I requested. Theres other things that I will have to work my way through an I dont think Ihave mail yet.    I happen to notice I am not alone and there are several other complaining over the past couple of weeks about the migration path from from MISP to their new account.  They also felt like theyd been backed into a corner to gettheir "premium" VPS at an inflated price, yet also waiting days/weeks for a response to their tickeds.

Ive still got a lot of things I need to do and try to get my mail working so please bear with with a bit longer.

------------

Oh btw, I found something on the new server that indicated premium support with a ticket system thats a bit wonky and not properly configured, but I gave it a go... and its from there they finally go me back up.
He wrote something supposedly by accident that wan'ts intended for me.  ::)  See below:-  The "mess" was made by one of his colleagues,  Ive never changed any of those settings.  It is still in a mess.

Yeah it seems they are a bit of a mess from what you typed, I dont know if Derpy helped you in the end, but if you feel you want to start handling this in house and he isnt available, I can help if required in future on anything server side, DNS records etc. and am on both telegram and discord.

The DNS is set to an hour expiry, so if they did it when they should have done it, you would have been looking at just a couple of hours for everyone to be on the new IP.

Its why I always made sure my DNS was hosted external to my actual VPS.  Its a little more work, but it means if the company ever goes out of business, or you need to change hosts, you are in complete control of the DNS at all times.

Of course, if you're paying for Premium support its specifically because you don't want this hassle which is fair, but sadly it appears offers no guarantees of not having issues still.

I don't want the hassle of having to keep up with security patches for all the various things that Im not familiar with.  It's not just the linux operating system theres things like mysql, php, phpmyadmin, remote access, ftp server http server, configure it for email, cpanel or similar before you even start with DNS. Not forgetting various other things to run the server.  There's too many idiots out there trying to take sites down or exploit servers just for the fun of it. The site used to be very busy and I'd be spending my time focussing on dsl,  I just didnt have time to take on the responsibility of building and running a server and not worry about what needed patches.  I need to make new skins for both the wiki and the forum...  and ideally I should make the main site responsive for mobiles, that a lone is going to be time consuming when there's 100's of pages. I really am not well enough to sit at the PC for more than a few hours, my legs have paid badly for the past few weeks. My brain is like a sieve these days and Im no longer is a tech environment and so I have no option but to pay for support. :/

I understand your position, but DNS is completely separate to all the rest of that stuff.  Its mostly set and forget unless you are adding new domains/sub-domains to the site.  Plus considering they admitted the zone file is a mess, that's a tad concerning that they aren't (or Cpanel) doing their job properly.

I agre, a dedicated server is  big expense, and for many, a VPS is sufficient. cPanel is convenient, but inded, once the system is set  you rarely need change anything. VirtualMin is a great tool for automatic backups, but I understand the frustration with configuration. Switching to AMD Epyc-Milan should provide a significant performance boost. Modern VPSs often outperform older dedicated servers, making them a more cost-effective choice.
