Potential Squirrel user (or am I just nuts?)
« on: June 23, 2024, 07:15:23 PM »

Hi,

Just joined this site and hoping to find any Squirrel Internet users (https://www.squirrel.uk.net/) to share their experience.

I'm an older (retired) ex-IT Infrastructure Manager living in the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire and still with an insatiable appetite for all things techy and a geeky love of being online often just for the hell of it!

I've been a BT customer for over 12 years but with ever increasing costs (£49.50 per month now for a 500Mb FTTP connection), I am looking at migrating to a Full Fibre Altnet provider. Squirrel seems my best bet so far, offering more for less it seems.

Would love to hear of any other customers of the same ISP on this site.

Looking forward to keeping in touch on here even if I'm the only prospective Squirrel user.

Cheers

Pete

Hi and welcome to the forum. :)

I'm afraid I know little about them as they dont cover my area.
@Meritez may have some more info though..

I'm moving your post to the ISP section where your question may be likely to be seen.

If you have been happy to with BT - apart from the price - it's always worthwhile calling their Customer Options (i.e. retentions) and seeing what deal you can negotiate with them.

Yes. I rang last month and they told me because my contract doesn't end until October, they couldn't offer any deals until late June/early July. I will have to ring back again. You always need to allow for their annual price hike around April though too of course. I know it's only going to be an extra £3 each year now but that means I could be paying nearer £60 a month after the next 2 years if they only offer the same rate. I suppose I could reduce my speed but I am enjoying the ride now!
Squirrel are offering 600Mb for £26 a month with no increases over the 2 years. Also their upload speed is supposed to be the same (Openreach/BT is only 75Mb). It's going to be hard not to be swayed...
