BTw 1.2Gbps and 1.8Gbps
« on: April 28, 2024, 01:02:39 PM »

Do you think BT Wholesale will ever selling 1.2Gbps or 1.8Gbps product off Openreach to many ISPs later? I wouldn't be too surprised if BTw won't do it this year. Only EE ISP do have it. Don't get me wrong as I have no plan to jump to 1.2Gbps or 1.8Gbps if you are thinking of that because I won't as speed isn't everything these days now. I have learned from it from my current G.fast 160/30 or 330/50 as these are perfectly fine for my need for upgraded to FTTP either 160 or 330 depends on the right pricing (cheapest one)

Hi Max, I do hope that soon all the ISP's offer this tier. I do like the idea of an ONT that runs faster (2.5gbps) than the service it provides, removing a bottleneck.
Also EE state on their 1.6Gbps 'Busiest Home Bundle' a '1.3Gbps Speed Guarantee'.

How this would affect other users on the PON I am unsure of...?

That's up to the ISP's.
EE buy it from BT Wholesale via trial, providers will be able to buy shortly.

I think its inevitable it will become available on BTw as otherwise Ofcom would have something to say.

Will be interested to see the 1.2 and 1.8 offerings, but I reckon they'll be the wrong side of £100 a month on Aaisp.

I'll probably still have 1.8 though... network fully capable and have use cases for it.

It was supposed to be launched early this month, no idea why it hasn't.

Maybe ISPs think not many peoples will afford this due to cost of living! Maybe I was wrong!

The interesting thing is broadband checker still says only 1000 is available at my exchange.

Yeah the 1.6Gbps is the 1.8Gbps offering - just rounded down to average throughput when used.

On 31 March each year the monthly price shown for your broadband plan will increase by £3

I'm interested to see how prices compare to the likes of youfibre. Still paying £49 pcm for 2gb/2gb with fixed ip.
