Though having said what I said above, I actually have VM and OR FTTP connections - VM being the Nexfibre form, and despite all the things you hear, the service has actually been excellent. I do not intend to keep both past VM's renewal, however, or at least not at the top tier like I have, VM is not cheap.

My friend has had cable since back when it was still Yorkshire Cable, I don't think he had many problems with it.  I would always know because his dad would start unplugging things if the Internet was down, it really didn't happen often.  I did stick them a TP-Link with OpenWRT on it though.

I'd absolutely do Nextfibre to get 2Gbit symmetrical, though I'd prefer to stick with Zen otherwise.

It might be a bit of a digression, but do VM ever go overhead or use BT ducts and poles?

AFAIK they are using Openreach poles and ducts for all recent fibre specific expansions such as RFoG and Nextfibre.

Openreach install went smoothly engineer was happy to install in a first floor bedroom that acts as a mini server room. Also removed the old copper line for me. Speeds seem to be great so far all working with my UDM-SE. I went with plusnet in the end rather than Zen due to cost and not really needing a static IP when I can use cloudflare and dynamic DNS.

Overall very happy.... Just checked again for VM out of interest and still not available so glad I went for Openreach.

Confused, you have ONT on the wall, and something on your switch is an ONT... Did you replace it with a GPON on a stick type affair?
