opnsense and vtnet (proxmox)
« on: February 16, 2024, 08:38:10 AM »

So pfSense disables the multiqueue feature of the virtio network drivers, and I decided to check opnsense, and was surprised they didnt follow the same policy so now will be moving a server instance of pfSense to opnsense, which will probably lead me to submitting a bunch of patches, as there is some regressions on some of the UI moving to opnsense. (mostly on traffic shaping).

I will also be requesting they add a system patches package similar to what pfSense has, if they add it, I then dont mind sharing my patches on the wiki.

I'd be more curious at the rationale for why pfSense disabled it, there must be a reason.

Because the driver doesnt support multi queue and ALTQ at same time, and they prioritised ALTQ.
