I admit it made me a little nervous when the engineer doing my pole said no to photos, doesn't give me much trust in their work.  Technically I don't think they can legally stop you given its a public place, but nobody wants to get into a argument over it, plus a bit of courtesy for them doing a job I sure wouldn't fancy doing.

I know the people erecting the new pole to get fibre across my road were a bit frustrated they couldn't cite it roadside, as there was no space in the verge next to existing ducting for copper, electricity, gas, sewage, etc.  This is what people who complain about poles don't seem to realise, there's a lot more under our feet already that can make ducting a pain.  Plus I know from when they ran fibre for FTTC that there are bits leading back to the exchange that need specialised equipment because the ground is so hard in places.

From experience, it can be very uncomfortable have pictures taken of you while working out in public like that.
Even someone standing watching you, particularly for as long as 40 minutes, can be uncomfortable.
Normal daily banter with your colleagues comes to an end and you're on edge until whoever it is leaves.

Some folk just want to get on with their work and don't want to be their employers tour guide explaining what they are doing to everyone who stops and asks.

Personally I would politely ask what they were up to, have a quick look, then let them get on with their work.

Very true.  They don't know if you are the kind of person who will take anything they say or do out of context and post on social media.

I'd imagine this is doubly-so for subcontractors where who knows how stable the employees contract is if they get badmouthed online.

Been following a Openreach engineer on tiktok, feel sorry for the guy as the work he is doing to help people who lose sync speed or have instability is a losing battle against ancient copper, and he is working in an area where Openreach have decided copper is the future (no FTTP investment).  Lots of interesting stuff, some of it tech related on how faults are diagnosed etc., and also some of it internal Openreach politics.  Interesting to learn as an example a pair swap is really just a "temp clear", and the actual proper fix done at a later date.

I mirror what dee jay said, the g.fast deployment is basically a maxed out copper deployment, using massive frequencies, and all the techs like SRA, g.inp, adaptive banding and so on.  The DLM now days is far better than when it was first introduced on ADSL, so whatever you have lost will probably be recovered within a week.

What is this black box for? Look like Junction Inline for power?

Fibre optic splice closure.  It contains numerous trays for {FTTP} fibre optic cables

Thanks kitz for this video very useful. It's a waiting game now for FTTP to show up on openreach fibre checker but I don't expecting it will go live until next year I think.

But you are at least in a better position than most for the meantime :)
