Openreach build FTTP plus G.fast *Updated*
« on: February 07, 2024, 07:40:06 PM »

I have seen lots of Openreach vans and engineers in all over in my area as I asked them is that for FTTP and they say yes it was indeed but it won't be live until end of this year cos it a big task job to do. Funny is no metioned in roadwork here: https://mastdatabase.co.uk/maps/streetworks/

Now turning into G.fast updated:
I have now swapped over to Openreach G.fast Modem and that's surprised me getting better sync rate in downstream (up from 241 to 269) but the upstream (down from 41 to 34) but that's doesn't bother me at all because downstream are more important role for all devices in the household. Roll on until FTTP become available when my Gfast contract expired in December 2024.

Zyxel Gfast Router: 241/41
Openreach Gfast Modem: 269/34

Good news I am no longer using dslstats as I trusted in Openreach Gfast Modem will do the job.

Depending on the actual work they are doing you may well not see any roadwork notices - if they don't need them, they don't need to notify ;)

Got faulty Gfast as it was disconnected 5 times - thinking could be Openreach Gfast Modem?

A potential high resistance fault identified at or near to the end user premises. Access may be required to resolve the problem.
Please report fault to BTW for OR investigation.

Why are you running a GEA test on your line? Swap the modem, move on  :)

Because the Gfast was disconnected 5 times in 24 hours. I thought something odd and I did GEA Test and it found the fault. Look like I have to go back to Zyxel Gfast router because it was stable for over a month.

Yes, after you changed the modem. Put the Zyxel back on the line and leave it alone.

Zyxel Gfast Router put it back and now the GEA Test found no fault. How strange. Look like the Openreach Modem is faulty.

The engineer is now booked in. Fault on the line. ISP say there is High Resistance (HR) and need the engineer visit. **(The appointment was cancelled as per my request 24 hours ago)**

Yesterday was really bad day in my area with national grid power failure between 3:29pm and 6:17pm affecting 26 properies including one of my property with ref number INCD-14773-m. The Gfast has been resync 11 times in the space of 3 hours. Last night not surprised DLM took actioned and reapply Bearer 0 with High Retransmission INP of 641.00 from 551.00 downstream and 607.00 from 535.00 upstream with INPRein from 00.00 to 10.00 downstream and 00.00 to 2.00 upstream.

This make me so angry because I thought G.fast DLM will take no noticed if there is power outages in the DSLAM and my property because it always best to leave the Gfast modem on at all times, how wrong I am!!!!

Yet you still manage a 240Mbps sync. Nice.

Don't forget, G.fast is just a technology for sweating copper for every last ounce. Copper simply has been adapted as much as possible for transmission of data over very long distances and we should remember that it is probably the last technology we should be using.

Just leave it alone, it'll come back in a few days once all the other problems have been solved.

Yeah I leave it alone, just a waiting game for DLM to restored it back but I do remember once the INPRein apply on upstream, it will never removed off! Only the downstream, which it rather strange to be honest.

By the way there still Openreach laying fibre optic all over in my area all last week and this week. I did ask the engineer at the bottom of the street will my property get FTTP, he replied 'Yes you will get it soon but I can't tell you when is ready, only the Openreach regional manager network will know it'.

So, I hope FTTP come next year and finally no more DSLStats, No Stats from ONT, No DLM forever.

Yes laying the fibre in the ground is only part of it, could be a number of months yet (Can tell you from personal experience). But, getting that fibre in the ground is the hard part...
