Earlier this year I decided to upgrade the PSU to a 650watt, only to find the PC would not even start at all, although the new PSU works fine on a couple of other systems it was tested on.
I then noticed that both the old and new PSU were of the same make.
(not the make as originally supplied with the system)
So it could well be something my Mobo does not like with this brand of PSU.

Fortunately it did not cost too much £26.00 so it's still in the box waiting to be used elsewhere.

Oops, I didn't spot that one... it could be that the new PSU is too powerful for that particular mobo... try something like a 450W.

The very first thing I decided to upgrade on my first PC was the memory,so I bought 2x 8mb modules, opened the case and was taken back a bit about the amount of stuff inside there. After identifing the memory banks Sue came over and said let me do it as your fingers are like 'cows teets'. :o
She then inserted the modules with ease, which for someone who thinks CPU is a perfume by Calvin Klein was quite a feat.  :D
I closed the PC,rebooted and there was my new memory installed.

I think it's a 400watt that's installed at the moment (previous upgrade) that's also giving me the problem that's originally outlined (Standby not working properly), annoying but can live with it.

The wattage should not matter as that's just the "Maximum" power that can be withdrawn.
But a interesting point.

The very first thing I decided to upgrade on my first PC was the memory,so I bought 2x 8mb modules,
My very first upgrade was 2 x 1MB sticks of memory & (I think) £8 each.
Making 4MB in total. (96MB HDD)

I think my very first upgrade was installing a dial-up modem (don't laugh).

My first PC was an IBM 286 with a whopping great 640 KB of ram. :)
