ECI cab and G.INP?
« on: October 12, 2023, 11:03:22 AM »

Well .... had an overnight reconnect, now it seems that G.IMP is working on my line?  :-\

I too had a resync out of the blue two nights ago and synced 3Mbit higher which made no sense. No stats unfortunately as I use the standard Openreach modem...

My hope to solve packet loss was short lived  ;)

With an INP value of 48 on the downstream it does indeed look like retransmission (G.INP) has been applied by the DLM.

Anyone else on a an ECI?
I#m not much use here as I'm still on the so called ECI g.inp trial.

So... I have checked a few other friends lines where they are connected to ECI cabs, all have G.imp turned on.
My downstream INP has now gone down to 42. Seems odd that it's now active on ECI cabs in the dying days of VDSL broadband  ???
No INP applied to upstream... yet. (I doubt it will be)

Packet loss has improved but not gone. For a day after each resync I had almost no packet loss!, then it came back...

Given the push to move people to Digital Voice, this may be to make that transition smoother by trying to reduce packet loss and latency from retransmissions?

Hopefully fewer devices that were incompatible with the ECI cabs now that f/w has been rolled out for both the ECI modems and BTr Home hubs.

I'd pretty much given up with G.INP on my ECI cab, but I've just had a look on DSLSTATS and the last router restart 24 days go resulted in G.INP being enabled - downstream only though.

Good news.

downstream only though.

Sadly the ECI cabinets only support it on the downstream. It would need the entire DSLAM to be replaced for upstream G.INP.

Yes G.INP has been enabled on my line also.  Yippee.  Not sure exactly when but last week perhaps as I noticed a not so insignificant speed increase so they have been rolling out quite slowly to make sure there are no problems probably if people first noticed in October 2023!

G.INP has now been turned off .... for now on my line :fingers: following last few weeks of instability (rock solid at the start) roller-coaster stats an all, ended up worse on up stream! and now still stuck there.
Methinks it must be line problem again :-\

As GINP seems to have rolled out okay does anyone think there is a chance that targeting 3db instead of 6db may roll out anytime soon?  TIA

It's possible, I suppose.  My download went up 3Mb/s back in December and it's been rock solid since.  Interestingly, just recently the Smart hub 2 has switched from doing a CWMP session once a day to doing it once an hour.  No obvious reason but it makes me wonder if they are intensly studying the stability prior to another change.  What sort of speed increase would you expect by reducing the SNR margin to 3dB?

Difficult to say with any accuracy as it all depends on the length of the line but if I was going to put a (random) average figure on it I would say approximately the same as what you got from the initial implementation of GINP.

Some connections may not support a drop at all and they will continue to target 6db, some may manage a target of 4db or 5db rather than 3db.

If you have continuous stats running on your line you may be able to get an approximate figure for your line when a neighbour disconnects and reconnects and review the change in SNR margin and maximum connection speed values and estimate a value from that.
