Although I wonder if that is why they aim for 30 rather than 32, so they can have a couple of dual-port customers without hitting the PON limit?

I thought the main purpose was to have some contingency built in, in case of technical issues (ports failing etc).

I don't see how it achieves that given all 32 run off the same port as its a time-shared technology.

I see Unchained seems to have a good rep, I had a look a couple of days ago and looks like they dont do cityfibre, so its just for you guys on Openreach FTTP.

A good rep yes. but £55 for 160/30 (£10 more than A&A) seems a bit steep to me!

Unchained is only £70 for FTTP 1000/115 (AAISP is £85).
The install is only £25 (AAISP is £100).
Both have 12 month contracts.

And there are no data caps with unchained...

Doesn’t change what I said about 160/30 though.

Unchained is only £70 for FTTP 1000/115 (AAISP is £85).

That's basically what I'm paying Zen, but the new customer price has dropped since so its going to be interesting to see how much more it will really work out as.

The 1TB quota that you get included for the £45 you are comparing on A&A is a significant limitation, with it costing that extra tenner to go up to 10TB (no unlimited option on AAISP) - which would be the fairer comparison.  I think for many the 1TB quota option doesn't really cover their usage (it didn't for me, a house with 3 people streaming but no significant downloads), and adds to anxiety over the service.  One of the nice things with FTTP is it "just works" it seems, and so having to watch over an aspect of usage is an annoyance.

It seems Unchained have recently increased their new customer retail pricing, though I think it looks competitive still compared to AAISP.  My contract (from Sept 2023) is currently at the £56 inc VAT level for 1000/115 uncapped.
There doesn't seem to be any mention of a process for tariff increases in the terms and conditions, so I suppose I'll see what happens when September rolls around.

As far as I'm aware they don't offer connections via Cityfibre.
