DLM reset
« on: August 19, 2023, 07:17:13 PM »

Is it possible for DLM resets to go wrong? The tech support I was talking too said, not many of us can do a dlm reset because they can go very wrong in the wrong hands.

Since I had a DLM reset I am having strange sync issues in game, where player models are just floating around or disappearing.
I am curious what can go wrong?

I suppose in the short-term things can be less stable as the line re-trains, but I don't see how anything can "go wrong" in general.

Hi
Can I ask here if there is anyway I can disconnect my router from Fiber without causing the DLM to retrain? I know that most ISP do this and I remember from an older post somebody said that there are specific part of the day where the DLM will not be monitoring or regardless of this of leaving the router disconnected for at least 30 minutes will avoid retrain. Is this true?
Thanks

DLM is monitoring your line in 15 minute chunks 24 hours a day. If you don't want to upset it then it's safest to leave at least 15 minutes between swapping or resetting routers and I would also avoid doing this more than a few times in any 24 hour period. Generally you'll get away with it but what you don't want is for the line to get banded as that used to need a full reset to get rid of but I don't know if it's still the case.

Thanks I have been waiting even 30 minutes as in Talktalk I hear them asking often to do so as to reset the DLAM stats and since I checked both the Billion and Tp-Link routers must have done it no more than twice a day.
That is a very useful info I have been waiting to know for a while, thanks tubaman.
