Is supervectoring a MUST when deploying VDSL 35b profile?
« on: August 09, 2023, 01:16:27 PM »

I am stuck on 75/10 Mbps speed which is the maximum profile my Cabinet can handle (the cabinet is about 100M away) and I am considering asking my ISP to switch me on a 35b port which "if possible" will mean that my line will revert back to exchange (about 300M away) rather than the cabinet which has a DSLAM that doesn't support it.

So I was wondering if supervectoring is mandatory when using 35b as it will be important to compensate for longer line length and probably more cross-talk!?

Yes. Vectoring is mandatory for 35b. It can't be deployed without it.

Is this why OR never bothered and went g.FAST instead as they would need vectoring anyway?

Thank you for the info, hopefully my plan goes well  :fingers:

I wish I could be stuck on 75/10 rather than the 43/7 I'm stuck on, and with no other options.  ;)

I think they went G.fast as it was what their vendors were pushing at the time more than a technical thing.

The ECI kit isn't capable of 35b so would have need replaced or they would have had to skip any DSLAMs with both Huawei and ECI.

The Huawei kit would need considerable upgrades to do 35b. They would also need to do Node level vectoring for anywhere with more than 1 DSLAM.

G.Fast was quicker and easier and made better marketing with higher headline rates.

If I remember rightly, the OP here is not in the UK so any Openreach decisions are irrelevant here.
