windows 11 - usb device not recognised
« on: May 06, 2023, 03:15:30 PM »

anyone know how to permanently fix this annoying windows "error".
i have a caldigit thunderbolt dock connected to my laptop, which works fine.

however whenever windows 11 goes to sleep, after waking it up i get this error continuously until i either reboot the laptop or disconnect the dock and reconnect it.

The only thing I could think of... Device manager for Thunderbolt settings might have something similar.

Is your PC BIOS and drivers all up to date?

yes, it's Dell XPS13, and everything is up-to-date.

it has prompted me to create a thread on their reddit channel though, didn't know they had one.
so possible i'll get a reply from caldigit themselves.

i think that solves one problem but creates another, as when the laptop wakes back up some connected devices then aren't recognised unless they are unplugged and plugged back in,

Unfortunately power management has always been the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to wake from sleep issues.

I can't find it, but I'm sure I read an article from Microsoft themselves on how this is an impossible thing to entirely fix due to buggy implementations from the laptop/motherboard/perhiperal vendors themselves.

the bizarre thing is.
i only have 2 HDMI and 1 ethernet connected to the dock, which all work fine even when the error is appearing.
so not sure what USB device it thinks it has an issue with.

I occasionally use USBdeview to look at USB devices in more detail and clear them out if necessary: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

Presumably the USB hub.
