CBT's installed months ago but not activated ?
« on: April 20, 2023, 05:23:04 PM »

Our village has seen a tremendous amount of OR activity over the past 9 months or so and now as far as I can tell every street / road has CBT's on the poles.

Ours has been in place for over 5 months but still not able to order.

I suspect the entire PON will go live at once, hopefully any day now.

The village is Freckleton PR4 in Lancashire.

It really depends upon whether the fibre is fully linked back to the head-end. Once end-to-end light is confirmed and all the boxes are ticked . . .

I suspect there are still shortages of the exchange-side hardware given everyone and their dog is installing FTTP right now.  So the physical fibre can be completely finished but the lead time for the exchange side can be insanely long.  Plus if there are any issues getting the backhaul to the exchange done too, given rural exchanges may need a lot more upgrading if they only had something like ADSL available before.

I seem to recall in extreme cases people said it took 12 months from finishing the street works for the service to be available.

Around here the CBTs went up and less than three months later I was on 500Mbps FTTP but over in Fulham the CBTs have been up for 6 months and they are still not connected

Our local exchange supports FTTC and Gfast so hopefully the main fibre back haul is in place plus I notice at least once commercial property has fttp on demand in operation.

Guess like you say could be other factors and box ticking etc - at least we have fibre and CBTs even in remote areas of the village !

Hi Blacksheep

pm sent.

I noticed on my daily dog walk / CBT inspection there were at least 5 OR vans busily pulling fibre down another road which hadn't had CBT's installed - one of the few remaining ones which hadn't been done.

So as I mentioned in my PM I suspect there's still a few holes in the PON preventing it from being lit up.

Blacksheep

thanks for the pm and taking the time to look into the status.
Hopefully won't be much longer before I can switch from fttc to fttp and go from 17M (on a good day) to 900M !
