BT Digital Voice on FTTC
« on: March 13, 2023, 07:19:21 PM »

Just wondering where the redundant E side is disconnected when moving to BT Digital Voice with FTTC, the cabinet or the exchange.

My understanding is its not disconnected usually, POTS is just turned off for your port, eventually.

As far as I am aware, it isn't disconnected. (The principal of "minimal work" applies.  ;)  )

Following my FTTP & DV upgrade the copper pair is still in situ, live and has a dial tone but has a new telephone number (confirmed via 17070) but goes not accept incoming or outgoing calls although I did wonder if 999 would still work (admittedly no grounds to confirm).

How long after the upgrade did you check? I wonder if turning off the dial tone is something that takes a while to work through the BT systems.

Yes, was moved to DV overnight and analogue line still has dial tone with a new number, presumably in the same way as a 'stopped line' would be configured. Original number successfully transferred to DV.

Same experience here when I migrated from FTTC + phone with Zen to FTTH + DV with BT last year, I had an old analogue phone on the POTS line which I kept connected out of interest and periodically checked, about 3 months later the copper line finally went dead, assume OR got around to disconnecting at the PCP cabinet or exchange?

In my case the old POTS copper line is an underground feed and as such remains untouched.

The question was specifically about DV with FTTC though, rather than FTTP(H)

Just wondering where the redundant E side is disconnected when moving to BT Digital Voice with FTTC, the cabinet or the exchange.

Since the launch of SOGEA the E-Side has remained connected on all lines.
It's been a requirement due to many of the line tests originating at the TAMS machine in the exchange.

Openreach started trialing D-Side only SOGEA in Dec 2021 in Mildenhall. The trial was extended in May 2022 and dates announced for specific exchanges in August 2022 but there have been no briefings to CP's since then.

No idea what the current state of play is.

Your dial tone will be temporary.

Checked for you this evening and the line is still active and responds to a dialled call to 17070. I migrated back in October last year.

But yes as was commented above this was specifically about FTTC DV transfers.
