TPLink TD-W9970N
« on: February 16, 2023, 05:50:09 PM »

I got a new VDSL modem tplink td-w9970 hardware version 2.0 and it came with ISP firmware. And I am using it in bridge mode with my router. I want to know if I should switch to TPlink firmware? Or stick with stock ISP firmware. I read tplink firmware doesn't have support for telnet.
With my ISP stock firmware, I can use dslstats and see all the details.

If it is working ok and has the features you need with the current firmware then as it's running in bridge mode I'd leave it as is.

As you are using the TD-W9970 in bridge mode and the existing firmware allows you to do that you require then I would suggest that you do not attempt to upgrade the firmware to vanilla TP-Link.

and is there any way to save an image of current firmware installed on the modem? If I decide to and go ahead with installing the tp link firmware. According to their website, it's five 6 years old firmware.

I suspect you'd be on a one-way trip if you installed the TP_Link firmware so I'd proceed with caution.
As you are running in Bridge mode I can't see any issue with leaving it as is if it is doing what you need.
