Overbuild
« on: February 12, 2023, 02:45:38 PM »

Poles are looking kinda busy in Wakefield. Extra lead in duct required on some as no room in the existing one.

More and more common sight as things progress. I imagine Zarjaz is cringing at all the extra stuff getting attached to poles.

The pole top certainly looks "busy" but its not as "busy" as some I have seen.

The pole upon which the DP that serves "The Cattery" resides has two separate feeds from underground just like the example you have shown. The newer feed has its own protective "half funnel" but no "mad axeman" metallic protective capping, going in the up direction.

You wouldn't believe the amount of furniture now allowed at pole tops, since PIA became a 'thang'.

As a result of this, a backlog of L2C work occurred because of the need for a hoist (cherry picker), to be able to access the pole top within mandatory safety measures. It's been a while, but it was always 4 pieces of furniture at the pole top and you could climb .... any more and it's a hoist requirement.

I hope so, but some of their quality of workmanship (IMHO) is horrendous, let alone their safe working practices - so it wouldn't surprise me to see the CBT nailed half way up the pole.  ;) :) :)

Don't have this problem where there's no poles to build on :)

Or ducts, or ... anything else :(

@BS - I'm (always) curious. What is the definition of 'furniture', does it have to have cables attached? There is a pole near me with old equipment on, some insulators and a metal cap, would this be classed as an item of furniture?

Yeah I would not be surprised to see boxes appearing below the current ones  ;D

It's any attachment at all Craig - those insulators at the top of the pole for example are still 'furniture' - but in this instance, they aren't adding to the climbing regs as they aren't affecting the climber as they are perched atop the pole.
A BT66 is still classed as 'furniture' for example, and even though they are tiny they could still affect the safety of the climber if his climbing belt accidentally rested on on it when strapping himself in. The belt should rest only against the pole itself.

There are windows or 'envelopes' as they refer to them now on poles, that stipulate what can and can't be attached inside them. Also, because of PIA, new bracket extensions that can be installed to give greater capacity for furniture.

Yep a few that look like that with the CBTs on bracket extensions, CityFibre aerial nodes, Virgin Media FTTP infill nodes, Netomnia and Openreach filling the top of the fibre alongside a splitter tray half way up the pole.

It's a bit silly  :)

Incredible coincidence the way Openreach just happen to have planned the areas where CityFibre and Netomnia either are building or have built, while ignoring Sandal, where neither of the altnets have started building yet.

It's almost like Openreach chase altnets.

Wakefield is pretty busy for an area not on any of the lists, too.

Not my address by the way - I'm not that silly.

It's not altnet chasing if it easier to provide anywhere else but Sandal though is it...

I'm sure Sandal will suddenly become much easier when the orange and green dots start to appear there on BIDB.
