VOIP DECT Handset Recommendations
« on: February 06, 2023, 01:06:40 PM »

Hi,

I'm after any recommendations for VOIP DECT handsets, as we our ageing Panasonic handsets are unlikely to be compatible with any of the VOIP base stations (unless I go down either the replacement router or ATA route)

The key requirements for me are that the phone has clear audio (we have always struggled a bit with the Pana handsets) and doesn't have a horrible clicky keypad (which was the reason I took back some Gigaset handsets and swapped them for the Pana ones)

My son has Gigaset C630 phones which have the horrible keypad and Curry's have some A690s which are much better. (Both non-VOIP handsets afaik).

It would be great to have an answering machine on the base station, but that might limit me to going down the Gigaset route. Aesthetically I have a preference for Yealink handsets, but have never had one in my hands to compare.

So just after any recommendations, please.

I'm using Yealink handsets and base station.  These are have been 100% reliable so far.  The handsets feel good (the ones that come with the W76P system), don't feel cheap at all.  The buttons have what I would call a soft click, which until you mentioned it and I tried the keypad I hadn't noticed. It's very quiet, more felt than heard.

Hope that helps.

Yealink W73

There's others, but that's my preference:

Thanks, Meritez and EC300.  That certainly helps.

I've spoken to A&A and Voipify this afternoon.  The A&A sales guy confirmed they have supplied Gigaset and SNOM handsets in the past but are supplying Yealink W53s at the moment.  The Voipify guy suggested sticking with Gigaset as the Yealink phones were difficult to configure, although I haven't seen that comment from anybody on the forums here or at TBB or ISP Review, so may take that with a pinch of salt.  He did suggest buying from Amazon as they were easier to do a try and return if I wasn't happy with the phone, however at least one of the Amazon suppliers seems to be supplying them with 2 pin rather than 3 pin plugs which isn't great.

The W73 that Meritez was suggesting seems to be available for roughly the same price as A&A are charging for the W53, so a bit of a no brainer to go for the W73

W73 is the newest handset, w52, w56 and w53 are approaching end of life.

I've been configuring yealinks as a day job for ten years come March, if you have any questions please ask.

Wish I'd known about this before getting the Gigaset.

Thanks for the kind offer, Meritez.  I may take you up on that if I go down the Yealink route and have any issues and can't work them out myself.

I'm just after an assurance they are at least as good functionally as Gigaset handsets.  I'm already sold on the aesthetics.

Any recommendations on a reliable supplier for the W73?

It looks as though the w52, w56 and w53 are more than approaching end of life according to the following we page:  https://www.yealink.com/en/product-list/eol-products

In terms of VOIP provider I'm down to A&A, Voipify and Voipfone.  Don't think there is much to choose between them TBH.

I use A&A VoIP and honestly can’t fault it.

BroadbandBuyer are around £120:
https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/43018-yealink-w73p/

Box are £102.49
https://www.box.co.uk/W73P-Yealink-W73P-DECT-Phone-System_4321277.html

Voipon are £106.20
https://www.voipon.co.uk/yealink-w73p-dect-phone-system-p-9613.html

OneDirect are £107.99
https://www.onedirect.co.uk/yealink/yealink-w73p-ip-phone

Work has a trade account with BroadbandBuyer as they are local to us, but as we buy in bulk they are probably a bit to expensive for a single handset and base.

Box are easy to buy from, but I've never had to return anything to them.
VoipOn are also easy to buy from, and their customer service is great for queries.

I use AA VoIP but it’s only redirected to my wife’s mobile phone by AA, so not much of a test. My copper lines were too dodgy for VoIP to work properly I think, maybe because having a lot of bonded lines could at best produce much jitter and at worst out-of-order packet delivery. But very happy with the service and it’s also very cheap.

Thanks for this Meritez.

The prices have changed a bit since.  Box & Voipon are both now over £120; One Direct remains at £107.99.  The best deal at the moment seems to be InternetVOIPPhone who are selling the W73P for £91.10 inc VAT.

Not sure why the prices are so all over the place, but I guess I ought to get a move on before they all change again!

The die is cast.  Yealink W73P & W73H ordered on Wednesday and arrived Thursday.  Ordered VOIP from A&A yesterday evening and completed the configuration today.

All looking good on a temporary number.  Will be porting existing home number over once FTTP installed - due Monday PM.

Thanks everybody for your help.
