16 port switch recommendations
« on: January 31, 2023, 03:06:51 PM »

looking for a 16 port switch that has PoE+ (802.3 af and at) ports (need at least 3), rack mountable. preferably very quiet.
budget is tight so as cheap as possible.

if it had some managed capabilities then great (VLAN or LAG), but at the moment not mandatory.

Hmm . . . I'm not sure your wish-list can be completely satisfied. Perhaps tell us some more regarding your requirements and also list possible alternatives.

The only device that currently comes to mind is a MikroTik CRS328-24P-4S+RM. That is 24 PoE (802.3af/at) 1 Gbit Ethernet ports plus four SFP+ cages.

It's also over £500 so might not fit the tight budget  :)

Assuming the load isn't going to be high might I suggest a pair of 8 port, 4 of which are PoE, switches from someone like TP-Link? If you're running something like surveillance cameras even at 4k a gigabit is going to be more than enough for 8 of them so daisy chaining the switches will be fine. You're only getting a gigabit total out of the switch/switches anyway unless you either invest in one with a 10G SFP+ port or use a smart switch that can do link aggregation.

Already have 1 8 port tplink Switch with poe+, but isn’t rack mountable.
Adding a second 8 port would be pointless, still not rack mountable, and I’d lose 2 of the ports (1 on existing and 1 on new)

Needs to be rack mountable and with at least 16 ports of which some are poe+

You can buy shelves to go in racks. One holds my ONT and a Raspberry Pi.

Just trying to keep it as economical as possible given you wanted cheap and unmanaged if possible. If losing 2 of 16 ports daisy chaining is an issue that's fine: the switch mentioned above is highly recommended and has 10G separate so no need to waste any of the GbE ports on uplinks.

i have shelves already, but the requirement is rack mountable.
and yes, losing 2 ports is an issue.

the switch mentioned above is not cheap IMO and it way outwith budget.
