New Home with G.Fast
« on: January 20, 2023, 01:51:00 AM »

I am now in a new home with G.fast. Happy overall. Max line speed 410/75 with G.fast 330/50.  ;)

My house just under 70m from G.fast pod.

Lucky you!

I would hope with that kind of max speed there is little risk of dropping down to under 330 at this point.

Enjoy

I thought the bigger reason for downgrading was cost?

G.Fast is utterly pointless, I am astonished it is still for sale to be honest.

When he originally downgraded he said he didn't need the speed nor could he really afford it.  While he is presumably better off now due to moving to a smaller property, it still seems a bit odd if he didn't need the speed and said he was perfectly happy with what he had.

It is what it is. I think it's very clear that Max's thinking isn't always the clearest especially on broadband speed and I am definitely not someone who can judge anyone on that .

Glad, Max, you've moved to a smaller home more suited to your needs: a family now has more space which is fantastic and I hope you and your carer did the maths for your utility bills and your budget will be okay given your rates will change soon if they haven't already with the move.

Other than that make the most of the extra speed and I really hope it'll stay reliable and solid for you until FTTP comes along.

Thanks all.  Yes it make sense my previous big house are suitable for families who badly need it. As for me, I only need two bedroom for me and my daughter. But it smaller house. Not bad. Anyway my telephone exchange are no longer from cuckoo oak. I have moved to other side of Telford. Easy access for me to bus, train and shopping.

Why is it pointless? We have had it in one of our remote offices, served it very well for the past few years and with another 4+ years until FTTP arrives it does the job fine

Probably seen as pointless given the abysmally short reach that benefits those who can already get the full 80 anyway.
