What are T.K.Cable doing in my road?
« on: December 21, 2022, 10:17:41 AM »

As far as I know we're NOT listed for any FTTP work, and this may be in totally the wrong section, but....
Yesterday I saw a group of anonymous trucks near a FTTC cabinet at the end of our road (not one that serves me) and some long length of brightly-coloured cable being manipulated and possibly fed down into a manhole.
Today a pickup truck from T.K.Cable has arrived at the BT manhole over the road from us and the driver in bright orange overalls is looking inside.
Our house and several others are fed from there by overhead drop wires from the adjacent pole.

Our cable from the exchange comes from the opposite direction to the work I saw yesterday and that location is fed by fibre that comes a different (more direct) route, not past us.

I've never seen that firm before, what are they likely to be doing?

Edit: A reel of orange cable has appeared. But it looks like they're working towards us from the opposite direction to our exchange and copper cabling route.

Hopefully they are laying FTTP for you.

T.K cable are an Openreach contractor but they could have been doing anything.

It could have been FTTP preparations but could also just be pulling in more copper or additional tie pairs for an FTTC cabinet.

They moved down the road fairly quickly and have gone now, so maybe it was maintenance or surveying for future work?
