Which 5G Router?
« on: August 21, 2022, 10:26:22 AM »

I've decided to go 5G as it will be in my area at some point, it has to have bridge mode and the option for an external antenna just in case.

Network is EE, via the Scancom deal  ;D  FTTC 12meg connection is my failover using a Synology RT2600.

3 options below, are there any other sub 300 pound options?

ZTE mc801a works fine in bridge mode but the ts9 connectors for the external antenna are fragile.

For optimal signal you don't really want external antenna, you want the physical 5G router itself to be embedded in the antenna so you only need a single ethernet cable going through the wall.

At radio frequencies you get a lot of loss over antenna cables and as MIMO goes up, so does the number of antenna cables, its not really practical IMO.

Many thanks.

I have no chance of a 5G signal indoors.  My only hope was to point it towards a strong signal area about a mile away.

So this must be the best design then? Directional, external and no losses via the coax.

There are good Router manufacturers like D-Link, Cisco, etc.
Any manufacturer having the QualComm 5G chipset is a 5G router so the decision goes to the buyer.
