Given that AA have been doing IPv6 for something like 20 years, or thereabouts, and that they are always championing it, I’m trying to understand why there’s no IPv6 (still) available with their 4G data SIMs. I always just put it down to their AQL and Three, AA’s carriers, being useless. But now I think about it, I don’t understand how it’s possible not to have IPv6 working. AA uses PPP, and so everything that goes across the link is just some random PPP PDU no? Or is it something to do with PPP authentication/login? Could AQL or Three be inspecting the content of PPP PDUs and objecting to anything that is IPv6?.
Crazy note: Since AA can send data from their Firebricks encapsulated in PPP LCP PDUs marked with a special LCP ‘this is data’ type code, maybe that obfuscation would make IPv6 work? Mind you, it would be no good for me, as I’m not using a Firebrick at my end in this case, rather I’m using an iPad.
