Has it arrived yet?

Yes, all good.

I have a pcengines APU2 lying around (shamefully purchased but never used), that had a SIM slot in it, and I have a static caravan that has very good EE coverage. Useful to not drain mobile phone batteries with tethering, so I threw a Huawei 4G modem in it, and right now sat at my desk I've got 74/11 through it. The APU is running opnsense. Working great!

Works straight away, just don't lose it as it's £20 for a replacement.

So I moved to OpenWRT as that purportedly has better performance. And indeed, it's managed 70Mbps in some downloads that I have tried, but SSH could only manage 30Mbps. Not sure why because that traffic should not be inspected so not quite sure why that is low.

I am going to try a TP-Link 4G Router and see if that performs more consistently. But so far, pretty pleased. Works fine.

Only 1 day in but had no issues so far.

How do you monitor the data usage?  The Scancom portal does not show this.

No idea how to monitor usage, someone over on ispreview forum has already done the 600gb fair usage and not been restricted yet so?

They don't have a place to monitor usage.

I asked them if I could add the SIM to my own EE account, but that doesn't work because the SIM is part of their EE account. Their support recommended using a 3rd party app to monitor usage, but I don't know if that works (maybe on Android, but does iOS allow this? and this assumes we're using a phone/tablet).

On my Android phones I can see how much data I've used (currently at ~250GB), set alerts, etc, so that's what I'll use. Since I don't know how strict EE is about this 600GB limit, I bought the SIM as if they were selling a "600GB plan", not an "unlimited plan". Someone should go after EE for selling "unlimited" with low limits...

Scancom support told me to contact them if I had any issues with the SIM, so if EE decides to do something, maybe they can fix the problem if there's a good reason (eg: SIM is in a router and you can't see the usage)?

Quote
EE Unlimited Allowances

Scancom’s unlimited bundles are truly unlimited where usage is appropriate to subscription type.

Inappropriate usage would be considered as the following:

- Any usage outside normal commercial practice.
- Any usage made via automated means (also see Gateway/AIT FUP).
- Any usage that damages or impairs the hosting network.
- Any usage considered fraudulent, abusive, illegal or a nuisance.
- Data usage where users regularly tether to 12 or more devices or have used 600GB of data twice within a 6 month period.
- Data usage where roaming outside of the UK and exceeding more than 25GB within a single billing period.

We may investigate usage in order to ascertain whether your unlimited usage is in line with these guidelines.

In the event inappropriate usage is determined then we reserve the right to restrict services, adjust the plan or terminate the agreement based on the severity of the misuse.

I do not think I will have an issue with 600GB, I only stream and game with the occasion torrent for that hard to find movie.

I do not understand how something can be described as unlimited though when it is not.

or have used 600GB of data twice within a 6 month period.

Isn't filtering ICMP on IPv6 an incorrect implementation as ICMP is mandatory?

I’m very much in favour of usage caps as long as users can go to a higher usage tariff by paying extra, and are not just kicked off or completely crippled. I think limits of some sort are even more important with a mobile network. Having usage caps protects the quality of the network and having users pay for what they use is only fair so that certain hogs don’t cause a poor experience for the rest. On a mobile network it can sometimes be easy to saturate a cell with traffic or take up a major chunk of its throughput so other users in that cell are stuffed. It seems to me that the only way to fix this would be for the basestation to have per-user ingress throttling, in both directions.

Sure, but to classify a given amount as "business use" is kinda dumb.  There are plenty of scenarios where a residential user would use more data than a business.  Just call it what it is, a data cap.

I'm still not 100% decided on if I'm okay with calling a package Unlimited if there is a cap, which if you pass throttles the speed.  Although if going past the cap incurs further charges I'd call that a big no no if it was sold as unlimited, which is common in the US.

Do you want me to enable ICMP on my firewall?
