Can't use custom DNS on Zen?
« on: August 04, 2022, 11:37:44 AM »

So I am on Zen and trying to use custom DNS servers however no matter what I try it seems the Zen DNS servers get forced back onto the router. I've tried it using both the supplied Fritzbox! and my Asus router, both result in them saying they will use the custom DNS on WAN Side but then on the status overview/my devices I see Zens DNS servers. Has anyone else encountered this? Am I doing something wrong?

It certainly shouldn't be doing this, AFAIK they are not doing anything different to any ISP that uses PPPoE - its down to the router to ignore the DNS servers provided.

I suppose one caveat is it might be using their IPv6 DNS servers even if you overrode the IPv4 ones.

It seems you are correct. I had IPv6 completely disabled, however when I enabled IPv6 and overrode the IPv6 DNS servers too and now it is showing as me using my custom DNS servers when I do a check. However my Asus router overview still shows the Zen DNS servers as being in use.
