Hi everyone,

I thought I would share my newfound way of testing your internet speed in a manner that gets good real results, as its run off a USB ISO with a minimal Win10 Environment, its the 'newer' Hirens Boot CD x64, you can boot into this from USB (I use Ventoy for multiple ISO's), it loads a really strimmed down version of windows 10, with very little in the way of 'background processes' and no anti-virus running, open up a browser and run your tests in that, as nothing is running in the background, or browser configs/add-ons, slowing them down, I found it to be very precise and gives much better results than in "full windows 10" with even a 'Private' Browser (no add-ons).

thinkbroadband.com/speedtest and fast.com are usually the best ones to run, I found my speed to be much higher than in a fully installed "flooded Windows"

here is the link to it : https://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

It has way fewer programs on it than the original 15.2 (as most will be dated) - so I keep both ISO's  - but it worked a treat for true speed testing.

hope you are all well and staying safe..

I'm sure you can just use any Linux Live Cd to do speed tests as well.  :)

Yeah I don't trust Windows, my laptop straight from the factory had speed problems even wired. A clean install didn't even fix it, a Windows Update some time later I think might have as I had the same problem crop up on my desktop too then go away again.

Linux on the other hand consistently always performs well.
