Eci cabinet firmware question
« on: July 05, 2022, 11:43:05 AM »

Hi, I am on an eci cabinet with a long line. Unfortunately it has the 0xd86 firmware and this makes the upload speed painful at 0.4mbit instead of 1.2mbit.

It causes the modem not to have as much upstream transmit power on u1 tones and increases power on u0 tones.

How often does openreach upgrade the firmware? I know on this dslam cabinet other lines have 0xb206 firmware.

Unfortunately it isn't just the firmware but it appears it's a hardware version of the line card used.
Openreach aren't swapping out the line cards as they don't see them as being a problem so your line is likely to remain as it is until you are off the ECI cabinet.

Ah that's a shame, didn't realise that.

What are the chances openreach might switch ports if I complain?

Little to none. Matters not anyway, all the ports are assigned to line cards  (32/64 port cards) ........ you'd still be on the same firmware.  :)

In that case I might order a new line and cancel old one. Fiber is still years away.

We've had at least 2 members of this forum who have had 2 ECI lines where both were on the same cabinet but different line cards with different firmware versions.
A 2nd line isn't guaranteed to be on a different line card with the firmware version you want but it's worth a try imo.

Or me where I had two ECI lines, same firmware (I think) but they performed quite differently.

Just being in a difference place in the cable bundle can make potentially huge differences.
