Spontaneous reboot
« on: June 25, 2022, 01:15:10 AM »

I’m not 100% sure, but I think one of my modems rebooted itself earlier this week. It was offline for about 2 mins, according to the Andrews and Arnold CQM graphs, and I was sent two warning emails about the link going down and back up. I can’t be at all sure about accuracy of that duration. It takes 70-80 s for the modem to retrain / resync in the normal case, but a boot and retrain takes very roughly 2 mins. The logs in the modem were wiped and started at the time the modem came up so that does seem like solid proof that the modem did reboot.

Has anyone else had this happen?

From my 1312:
Code: [Select]
Total time = 212 days 7 hours 59 min 35 sec

So while I cant say spontaneous reboots dont happen, I'd say they were rare.  :)

Is this happening often?

I’ve never ever seen one before.

An uptime of 212 days is excellent for what is only a consumer grade device. Unless it starts doing it regularly I really wouldn't worry about it.

. . .

Has anyone else had this happen?

Some years ago, I experienced "oddities" with my VMG1312-B10A. The cause turned out to be the PSU which, fortunately, ultimately identified itself by its failure to deliver any output voltage. So I replaced the failed PSU with that from my spare -B10A (and purchased a replacement PSU to keep with the spare -B10A).

As I have very many B10As, I can certainly swap out the PSU. Good advice.

It must have been that heatwave.

No heatwave here. Like october, heavy rain, curtains of fog and mist, strong breezes.
