Fon Wifi / Fonera's
« on: June 09, 2022, 08:48:53 PM »

Is this network now well and truly dead (UK and elsewhere)
Many years ago i joined Fon with a fonera router, and subsequently changed it for a Fonera Simpl ( which is still plugged in)
When  BT was part of the Fon network it was a lot easier to connect and i used it in the UK and elsewhere ( Netherlands)
Now BT have left Fon the hotspots are few and far between - the fon website/facebook/social media also havent been updated for some time - is it worth leaving the Fonera Simpl plugged in and active?

I would assume it's now a vulnerability in your local network:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fon_(company)

Fon devices ceased manufacture in 2015, and the online shop closed in 2018.
Lots of operators ceased Fon in 2018, and the remainder left in 2020.

I would recommend removing it as the firmware is unlikely to be updated and there are known exploits:

Crikey, I unplugged mine years ago after BT dropped the service.
