FTTP in NewBuild Flat
« on: May 14, 2022, 08:51:45 PM »

My grandson is moving into a new build, 1 bedroom, upstairs flat with his partner in a small 15 dwelling brand new development, OR full fibre is pre-installed with the ONT fitted and powered, Virgin have also pre-cabled (likely fibred) the complete site, inside and out, ready to go.
At the ONT location, 5 ethernet LAN sockets have also been pre-installed to points all around the flat with a double at the TV location in case the Hub needs to be situated there for optimum Wi-Fi coverage, very well thought out and engineered.

He has opted to sign up with BT for 300/50 service and was initially given a 1 week "install" date with the Hub being dispatched right away, however, OR have knocked this back to the normal 3 weeks install date, a bit disappointing considering the ONT is already in and the fibre lit, would have thought that this would have been a 5/10 minute job for the OR engineer authorising the ONT and plugging in the Hub.

That's disappointing. Do you know the colour of the ONT's PON and LOS LEDs?

You say that the fibre is lit, so I presume the PON LED is green and the LOS LED is red.

That sounds like a Jubilee bank holiday issue.

Power LED is green.
PON LED is green.
LOS LED is out (unless I unplug the fibre when it turns red)
LAN LED is out (no Hub connected as yet)

ie, A healthy ONT with a working (but not yet authenticated) fibre connection awaiting a Hub.

Possible but more likely to believe that it's OR's local bureaucracy, an install is an install regardless of the perceived work scope, BT were more realistic with their initial activation time estimate and did agree to dispatch the Hub right away.

However, they will just have to be patient, obviously being without BB connectivity for 3 weeks is quite a big deal to two young adults!
