Anyone using Cuckoo (FTTP)?
« on: April 26, 2022, 06:58:58 PM »

Just wondered if anyone is with cuckoo for fttp?

I am ready to place an order with either zen to upgrade or look for a new provider.

Using my own opnsense router is a must.

Thanks

Worth considering that any smaller ISP at this point is likely going to charge a monthly fee for a static public IP address, if they offer one at all.

Its a really weird situation right now where an ISP can end up charging more for a public IP address, than it costs to rent a VPS that comes with one as standard, simply due to who has the biggest allocation.

Yup agreed but using dynamic dns on my opnsense router I no longer need a fixed ip from my isp for what I need to do..

I like the idea of a 12 month contract on cuckoo rather than 24 months with zen presently

What I meant was a lot of ISPs now its CG-NAT unless you pay for a static public.

Also I checked earlier and Zen is 18 months.

Where did you find the 18 months with Zen , this is from my account process..
Full Fibre 900 (24 Month contract)
Installation address: *removed*

if they offered 18 month then I could be tempted.

Cuckoo are a talk talk partner, using pppoe encapsulation.
You may as well go talk talk business and get ipoe.

Is that now the case with TT Business? The last I heard was that TT Business was still PPPoE and that it is only TT Residential which is IPoE.

Talktalk Business FTTC/P uses PPPoE.
It's only residential that use IPoE.

The only way to get no PPP on Talktalk Business (FTTC) is the ridiculously expensive Talktalk EoFTTC, but that's on a whole other level. It's essentially a budget leased line.

Maybe its because my exchange is only showing 300 as the fastest available?  Really hoping that changes to 1000 by the time its available at my address.  Although as I'd want to move to CityFibre once that is here, maybe 18 months would make more sense?

[The discussion which followed on from the above three sentence paragraph has been split off to create a "330Mbps v 1000Mbps FTTP Availability" topic.]

I will call them to discuss my options once FTTP is available.  Maybe you should too?

Hi John

Would you know if cuckoo are ipv6 enabled?

I am tempted by the rolling contract as I like the freedom to move if required.

Thanks

Could try and find details listed for Cuckoo’s important servers such as their customers’ inward-facing DNS server, or even users’ POP/IMAP mail servers.

As I thought. Thanks for confirming it.  :)

Thanks for all the comments. To round it off Zen have given me a very good discount pcm on the 1gig service even though its 24 months which I didn't want really but I have been happy with Zen overall.

Everything is booked for 17th May (my birthday.. great timing). I will miss my line stats in a way but looking forward to getting away from our eci cab at last. Its going to be very odd not being able to glance at munin.

Time to start clearing out the stock room of modems!
