It started snowing again on the evening of xmas day. So does that count as ‘a white christmas’ . . .

This is the official statement, from the UK Metrological Office, regarding the definition of a white Christmas --

The definition that the Met Office uses to define a white Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December somewhere in the UK.

Traditionally we used to use a single location in the country to define a white Christmas, which was the Met Office building in London. However, with the increase in betting on where will see a white Christmas, the number of locations have increased and can now include sites such as Buckingham Palace, Belfast (Aldergrove Airport), Aberdeen (Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen FC), Edinburgh (Castle), Coronation Street in Manchester and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

We also analyse the data from our observing stations around the UK to provide a complete picture of where snow has fallen or was lying on Christmas Day.

So, yes, it was a white Christmas this year (2022).  :)

The other week when we had many days of snow and ice and the water eventually froze up, then Janet found some sorry hens who had, she thinks, spent a very cold night outside huddled together because they had become snow-blind. They were just completely disoriented by the snow everywhere and couldn’t find their way home to the henhouse so Janet picked them up and took them back to where they should be, in the straw in the Tack Room of the donkeys’ stable, where the donkeys are charged with protecting them from foxes / mink / otters etc. They soon cheered up after a good drink and a feed and snuggled down together and stayed in there. We will check on them tonight, given more snowfall. For some reason they’re laying like mad at the moment.
