iPad wireless speed
« on: May 17, 2022, 08:42:29 PM »

Does anyone know how fast the wireless NIC is on the latest iPad and on one bought a year ago? Am wondering what wireless standards these models can handle.

I don't get Apple, even the Macbook Pro only has 80Mhz channel width support though to be fair it does peak about 830Mbit throughput.  But a good PC laptop supports 160Mhz with many even doing WiFi 6e while Apple only do WiFi 6.

On the other hand, it does mean I have zero reason to upgrade my AP to 6e any time soon, so will probably just wait for WiFi 7 which is supposed to boost speeds quite dramatically as it uses even higher QAM and can use all three bands at the same time on the same client (no doubt Apple will gimp this feature too).

I take all WiFi with a pinch of salt though, as I've tried having two different 2x2 MU-MIMO clients on different sides of my AP and the speed still halves when both are active, when they should get two antennas each so at least be higher than half speed.
