That was kinda the point, he was very anti port forward/uPNP when there are circumstances where its a perfectly valid thing to have - if configured correctly.

He was a great salesman and he wrote a pretty good drive tool however his security skills were brutally exposed by genuine experts. Shields Up was briefly useful when people were connecting PCs directly to the Internet however his fixation with UPNP wasn't great and his site slipped into irrelevance.

I've no idea what he's up to now. Spinrite version 112?
