Apache Server
« on: September 20, 2008, 07:57:58 PM »

Now the nights are drawing in I thought I would have a go at leaning about trying out a web server (on my home network first ! ).
On one of my PCLinux test machines I have 'VirtualBox' installed so I have installed a second copy of PCLinux2007, downloaded all the packages for a L.A.M.P server.
I have got the basic server working on the machine I installed it on .
If anyone has any experience with a web server could you give me some tips please.  :)

Absolutely none, I'm afraid, but good luck with your endeavour.

I use apache as a webserver - it took a bit of tinkering in the config file to set up...  but since I run it under windows Im afraid Im not much use.
Good luck mike :)

For Windows only

I will however pass on a really nice application that chris told me about for windows users wanting to set up their own webserver and thats WampServer.  Previously I set up apache, mysql and php all separately which took a while to configure.
WampServer makes it so much easier.

d'oh just realised you mentioned LAMP server...  haha bet LAMP means linux and Wamp Windows

Thanks for replies. :)
L.A.M.P. = Linux, Apache, MySQL , PHP    ;D

I have not done much yet, but I have got about 3 different sets of Linux  ;) software to try.

I'm going to start a new post on the security section as well.

Kitz, do you use a 'GUI' or 'terminal' to set up your Apache ?.
