Vodafone Broadband - Want to use HG612 and 3rd Party Router
« on: March 20, 2022, 09:39:53 PM »

Hi all,

I have someone who has Vodafone as their ISP. They use the standard ISP router provided to them. I can see from the settings on the router that it runs VDSL. I'm looking to swap to a HG612 however have issues doing so. I have got the PPPOE login from the ISP and connected everything up and when I tried to connect via PPPOE, it failed. I set the HG612 into Route mode and provided the username and password. When I do a self diagnostics, I get this:

Obtaining the IP address of the PPPOE Failed.

Anyone that can help me as I've been at this for a week now?

The HG612 is a poor router but a great modem. Most use this as a modem only. What are you trying to achieve?

Welcome to the kitz forum.  :)

From the subject line, I understand that you would like to use a Huawei HG612 and a third party router. To achieve a successful result, the HG612 does not need to be re-configured from its default.

So just revert the HG612 to its default configuration. Then configure the third party router to be the PPPoE client. It is this latter device that needs to be configured with the ISP supplied credentials.

Is this via a BT/Openreach phone line or one of the areas that Vodafone use their own cabinets?
