Wandsworth FTTP rollout
« on: March 11, 2022, 10:05:51 PM »

I thought I'd start a thread on FTTP in the Borough of Wandsworth. Openreach seem to be doing a lot of work now, they're all over the place and seem to be over time moving further north up the borough.

I live near East Putney and work seems to be scheduled for around here over the coming days.

I am hoping FTTP might be here by the end of the summer if we are lucky.

I also live in Wandsworth and was told in June that FTTP should be available by the end of July this year (assuming no delays to Openreach's timescales)

I don't know if you monitor planned works by https://one.network/?

If so, you may also want to keep an eye on http://public.londonworks.gov.uk/ which gives more detail of the works planned like one.network used too.

You can filter the results by Works Owner so:

BT = Openreach
COM = Community Fibre
G = g.network
VIR = Virgin Media

I should have mentioned in my previous post that:

a) Community Fibre are rolling out FTTP to lots of premises in the borough (including a lot of non-MDU buildings); and

b) g.network are also installing FTTP starting in Clapham Junction/Battersea as per the map at https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/news/2021-news/news-may-2021/battersea-chosen-for-launch-of-borough-s-full-fibre-ultrafast-internet-rollout/

Walked down Mexfield Road this morning, BTO is now marked on the pavement so I can only assume they will be hitting that road soon.

Small world! My parents lived there when they first moved to London.

I walked past there yesterday as well but sadly I don't think the handful of markings there/on Oakhill Road are FTTP related - as they differ from all the others I have seen used elsewhere.

In slightly brighter news, we received a letter from Community Fibre saying they plan to rollout their network to us in the near future..

It is actually FTTP - Mexfield Rd was surveyed about 7 weeks ago.  :)

Lol - I stand corrected! In my defense, there are only a handful of markings and all at one end of the street - no signs for unblocking/De-silting or signs of blue rope.

Cheers :)

Thanks BS.

In that case, I assume FTTP will be coming to these roads quite soon?

Absolutely, once the manual surveys have been completed then they go straight off to Planning for the finalised job-pack to be created, (these are a thing of beauty if you ever got to see one, literally every single thing you can think of is within these packs).

Once out of Planning it is then over to the build manager and his glide path as to what order the PON's will be built.

Good news! Though we have had blue rope since before Christmas, so hopefully they install it here soon!

I am curious how much of an area Openreach tend to turn on at once. With Altnets, I imagine they may be willing to go live after each/a few PONs - but I assume OR would want a much bigger area to initially go live..

My area went from nothing to being available to order in 2 weeks (openreach)

I'm hanging on though  as netomnia are installing at the moment and offering 1gb symmetrical...

A word to the wise: you mentioned automatic, unattended speed testing in an early thread. YouFibre are within their rights to boot you for this, so check their AUP/FUP closely.

Think you're far enough away you won't have to share bandwidth with me so that angle should be good.  ;)
