The Significance of the Blue Ropes?
« on: February 23, 2022, 12:25:05 PM »

[Moderator note: This topic has been created by splitting off posts from the "Some Areas of Blyth, Northumberland, Now FTTP Ready" thread.]

Just noticed blue ropes are being replaced with cables in the Avenues, any idea how long after this stage before it can be ordered?

What is the exact significance of the blue ropes?

I had thought that meant the ducts were clear, but OR contractors recently started installing a splitter on one telegraph pole and then marked the next joint box with a white cross, despite all the telegraph poles on the street having blue rope..

The 'Test, Rod & Rope' (TRR) gangs will do as it says on the tin. They will shove rod's down ducts from box-to-box, or box-to-pole ... and pull a blue rope through when removing said rods. This rope is so the cablers can pull the fibre in come 'Build-week'.

If they can't get their rods through a section, they mark it as a blockage to be dug down on, via the white cross. If they've marked the actual box with a white cross, it will mean it needs remedial work such as a new cover & frame, or indeed a brand new box installing. Usually a bigger one to house all the new equipment alongside the existing copper stuff.

Thanks as always for the info!

The street in question already has the blue rope. The white cross appeared when they started to pull fibre/install the splitter at the pole nearest to it.
